The article provides a discussion of the current role of Medicaid, as well as a brief description and history of the program. It also presents a discussion of Medicaid’s likely role in a reformed health care system, with proposals that address some of the tensions in the present system, as well as the need to expand and simplify Medicaid in order to cover more uninsured people.
