Children’s Health Coverage: States Moving Forward

July 2007 and May 2007

May 2007: This report provides results from a nationwide review of state efforts to provide health care coverage to uninsured children between January 2006 and mid-April 2007. It shows that a large number of states throughout the country have proposed, passed, or implemented initiatives to cover more children through three primary strategies: finding, enrolling, and keeping SCHIP- and Medicaid-eligible children covered; increasing SCHIP and Medicaid eligibility; and integrating private and public insurance financing.

July 2007 Update: This update to the May 2007 report provides a review of state proposals as of July 20, 2007. It shows that between January 2006 and mid-July 2007, more than half of all states took action to expand coverage for children.
